Luke 19:1-4 NIV
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
I’m really busy; I’m too tired; I’ll start tomorrow… The list can go on and on and on.
Explore: I’m always amazed at how many excuses people make to not do exercise – and I include myself in this group!
The weather’s too hot; it’s too cold; I’ve just washed my hair; I have bad knees; I’m really busy; I’m too tired; I’ll start tomorrow… The list goes on and on and on.
Deep down inside we know we should exercise and that we’d be better for it. But the excuses seem just as real and the easier option.
Application: When it comes to our relationship with God, the list of excuses to not spend time with Him is just as long.
I don’t have the time; it’s not my thing; He knows my thoughts anyway; He made something bad happen in my past; I don’t fully understand Him yet… and the list goes on and on and on.
I love what Zaccheus teaches us in Luke 19. He had a physical excuse not to connect with Jesus – he was too short – and yet he didn’t let that get in his way.
There are lots of reasons why our relationship with God can be challenging, but we know deep down inside that our lives will be better off having Christ as the center.
Push through the excuses, climb the sycamore fig tree in your life and discover more and more ways to connect with our incredible Creator.
Prayer: Lord, You are the Beginning and the End. May You live inside our day like You are the breath we rely on. Amen.
How can you connect with God more?
The workout started with a little BROMANCE, Friar wiped away my shaving cream from the morning shave, PRECIATE YA FRIAR!!
I had to get my hair fixed up this morning before working out. BAHAHAHA!!!
Then the cinder suicides didnt go as planned but we muddled through them.
I appreciate 2-stroke and Charmin showing up. It was good seeing TRL on Saturday, also.
